The past few days have been rainy, but today it never rained! I think it was due to yesterday raining for pretty much 12 hours straight...Anyways, after class I headed to the reserve on campus with a friend from class. We walked around and geeked out on insects (just took our entomology test on all insect orders). It was really cool though, you don't have to cover a large amount of ground to see a large amount of insects; they are all within a small area. We caught some really cool golden tortoise beetles that had half translucent wings/half golden, each with different designs! A little too small for photos to do justice, but google them. Brought my camera, and here is what I came out with..
| Water can make pretty cool designs |
| Examining some epiphytes |
| We think this could be a juvenile mantodea (praying mantis) due to it standing on its rear legs and having the front ones up |
| Lepidoptera with clear wings |
| Heliconious butterflies are the ultimate mimickers of other butterflies |
| Natural sunscreen due to the color purple! |
