La Finca

This past weekend I headed to Ana's brother's ranch with Ana, him, and their friend. Her brother, Alexis, is so generous and always makes a point to include Ana's new children and show them around. He has had this property for a little less than 10 years now and it is the perfect getaway place! An hour away, generous plot of land filled with fruit trees, grass, and an open-to-the-elements house. The only semi-closed part of the house is the bedroom, which has an insect net as the ceiling. When you need a lime for your beer, go pick it off the tree. When you are hungry for some fruit, go pick it off the tree. When you need some heat, go pick it off the chili plant! He is friends with all the neighbors who come and hang out during the nights. There is a tropical forest right up against his property and a river nearby which you can swim in. Really, I could not ask for more in a weekend house (except for less mosquitoes?). It was extremely relaxing, and consisted of a lot of hanging out in hammocks and exploring around. And despite getting bitten all over, it was so worth it. I will let the pictures do most of the talking, since there are so many of them, so enjoy!

Only place not pictured is the bedroom, but this place is so cool how open it is to the elements, despite how many bugs and stuff there are here. It is interesting that in America you would not find a place like this. It made me realize how "sterile" us Americans are..in Ana's house even, both doors are constantly open all day.

These dogs! There are four of them and they belong to the neighbor, Don Sergio. So cool how different they are, but they all have the same captivating eyes. They are apparently cousins. All they want is love.

Alexis and I looking for sloths, unfortunately no luck..

This tree!

Climbing the monkey steps

They may be small, but they are HOT! So good though, one of many different foods on Alexis' property.

A lot of firsts for me this weekend, but first time having fresh coconut, first time eating starfruit (my new favorite), first time eating guava (only had it in flavored drinks), and this rambutan is another of my favorites. All from his property

Look up!

The river

Get ready for chicharrones

Learning to cook chicharrones, so good!!
Neighbors hanging out at night

Oh hey there pups, while walking through the forest I got a pleasant visit
I found this swing that was made from the tree! So cool, it was strong too!

More natural swing

Exploring with Ana and her friend

Got some sol food-esque plantains!

Alexis' homemade alcohol. The berries to the right have just been sitting there for five years now. They taste like a sweet wine and the stuff to the right is the liquor. Very strong

A nice big ol' orthoptera. I did not take this one for my collection; he is still alive and well.

Pan of the property

Beautiful sunsets don't have to be on the coast

This was taken at night when it was pitch black. The lightening lit up the sky though
